Fausto Cooler Name than Leo
From Wikipedia:
Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend; a highly successful scholar, but also dissatisfied with his life, and so makes a deal with the devil, exchanging his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures.
There are going to be a couple of interesting and obscure sleeper picks in fantasy drafts this spring. Roberto Hernandez Heredia and Juan Oviedo, formerly Fausto Carmona and Leo Nunez, could make their big league debuts despite playing in the majors for several years under their falsified names. The 31 year old Heredia was arrested in the Dominican Republic yesterday for trying to obtain a U.S. visa with a false identity as a 28 year-old Carmona.
Maybe Heredia was simply an overzealous fan of Christopher Marlowe or Goethe, and was merely acting out his fantasies. He did sell his soul for a new identity, and has received the unlimited worldly pleasure of the life of a baseball player named Fausto.
Anyway, tough break for the Indians.
I’m one of the few Rangers bloggers who is not a legal expert, but I’ll assume that this would make his contract invalid or voidable. The question now becomes whether or not the players can get visas to work in the U.S.
The Marlins agreed to a one-year contract with Nunez (Oviedo) earlier this week, but his visa status remains up in the air. Fans of the Rangers and Alexi Ogando know how long the process can take.
