Finally, Some News

Friday marked the first big news day in baseball after a few weeks with hardly any.

It was hard not to positively overreact to last night’s news that the Rangers met with Prince Fielder and Scott Boras yesterday. He couldn’t be a better fit in Texas, and despite the front office’s public denial of interest, the meeting seemed inevitable. There are still supposedly three teams left in the mix and there’s still a ways to go before he’s a Ranger, so I’m going to try to not get too excited.

Perhaps the best part of the news was that it broke shortly after the Yankees significantly improved their 2012 chances by signing Hiroki Kuroda, and trading Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi to Seattle for Michael Pineda. A DH like Montero has minimal value to a team with the Yankees payroll, as they will have no problem filling the gap through free agency. Great trade for the Yankees.

Anyway, the Rangers could hold a couple of significant press conferences in the next couple of weeks, and until then, we can dream about what this team would look like with both Yu Darvish and Prince Fielder.
