Oakland traded starter Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals for four prospects. The quick turnaround following the conclusion of the Yu Darvish bidding suggests to me that the Rangers and A’s may have had something tentatively worked out should Texas fail to submit the winning bid.
The Cardinals and Carlos Beltran agreed to a two year deal. The Blue Jays were in the running for Beltran, as they were with Darvish, so they might have money burning a hole in their pocket that could be directed elsewhere. read: Prince Fielder
Ken Rosenthal writes that the Rangers are still actively pursuing Andrew Bailey. If this is true, it indicates that they are not planning to move one of their starters, either Alexi Ogando or Matt Harrison, to the bullpen as many have suggested.
Finally, the Rangers finally parted ways with failed former first round pick Kasey Kiker. Kiker had significantly regressed over the past two years, and this move was all but inevitable.
